Welcome to 2025!
Barca returned to action tonight, but this time in the Copa Del Rey. This was their first competitive match in this year’s installment of the competition and it sure looked like it was set to be a ride in the park for Hansi Flick’s men.
Their opponent was Barbastro, a fourth division side.
This felt like a time where Barca could get back into a groove, but these matches can get a little wonky due to the unpredictability.
So let’s see how Barca fared.
First half
The first half saw Barca slowly take control of the match. Barbastro started out with a lot of energy, which forced Barca to match the energy and take advantage of the chances they received.
After around 15 minutes, Barca grew into the match and started to gain a lot of momentum, which eventually led to their first goal of the match courtesy of Eric Garcia.
Garcia got a little help from Ronald Araujo, whose header found Garcia and all Garcia had to do was head it into the back of the net.
1-0.
Lewandowski added a second with a header from a corner to make it 2-0, further extending Barca’s grip on their first match of the new year.
After that we hit halftime, with Barca leading 2-0 and no resistance coming from Barbastro themselves.
Let’s see how Barca fared in the second half.
Second half
The second half was just an influx of goals from Barca, as the overall talent pool won out over the hard effort and fight from Barbastro.
Lewandowski netted Barca’s third goal of the match, as he used a slick finish to score his second of the match. Lewandowski has struggled recently, but it was good to see him score and hopefully begin another run of goals.
After that Barca added another goal, courtesy of Pablo Torre. Torre took advantage of some poor keeping from Barbastro’s keeper then roofed a nice finish over the keeper to give Barca their fourth.
It was simply another day in the office for Barca, which during these times, is much better than anything.
Final word
Easy match for Barca, easy win.
Simple stuff.
The big registration cloud still hangs over the club’s head though. Dani Olmo and Pau Victor still aren’t registered and it remains uncertain when they eventually will be, if they are that is.
We’ll see what happens over the next week or so, but for now just enjoy the win Barca received.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match will on Wednesday night against Athletic Club, with this match being one of two semifinals for the Copa De España.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
