A win would confirm a second place finish for Barca.
That’s all there is to it, let’s see how Barca fared.
First half
The first half was full of control for Barca. They held the ball well, didn’t mind themselves with bad passes and errors, and they stayed calm during the final third in possession.
Those efforts paid off with a very early goal, inside of two minutes actually.
Lamine Yamal lofted a nice pass towards Robert Lewandowski, who controlled it with his chest and fired it into the back of the net, giving Barca a 1-0 lead.
This was the perfect start for Barca.
Now all they had to do was build on it and increase their productivity going forward.
That would have to wait until the second half though, as the rest of the first half remained pretty tame for Barca. They held onto their 1-0 lead, but the quality of chances they got after weren’t the elitest of the elite.
So let’s move on to the second half.
Second half
The second half remained pretty tame for Barca, at least until the latter stages of the second half.
Barca were dealing with some struggles defensively before they got their last two goals, which included some near goals for Rayo.
But luckily for Barca, those struggles didn’t lead to any bad developments. Even more luck arrived soon, with Pedri scoring a brace in three minutes to extend Barca’s lead to 3-0.
The first goal was a chance he found after Joao Felix’s individual brilliance.
The second goal was after a wonderful pass from the back by Ronald Araujo, which found a streaking Pedri down the pitch. All Pedri had to do was finish it off and that he did.
After there weren’t many more chances and Barca cruised to a 3-0 win.
Not a bad way to head into the last game of the season and confirm an important financial goal.
Final word
That’s about all you could’ve asked for from Barca.
They needed a win to confirm a second place finish and they got just that. They were shaky defensively in the second half, which put a potential win in doubt. But they somehow held on, getting three goals and a much needed win during the process.
The season is almost over, which means another hectic summer for transfer rumors. Until then, let’s focus on the product on the field and not on the circus off it.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match will be next Saturday against Sevilla. It’ll be Barca’s last match of season.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
