After what has felt like quite a while away, its finally time to turn our attention back to La Liga. And its a big one. A game that always guarantees goals and an incredible atmosphere. And yet another huge test for this fragile Barca side. This evening from 6:30pm local time, its Barcelona against Real Betis in yet another huge game in our league campaign. It’s going to be a huge test at a very difficult stadium. So let’s jump straight into it.
A Quick Look at our opponent:
Not much needs to be said about this . It always guarantees goals and either home or away an incredible atmosphere is a given. Betis have had yet another impressive season in the league so far. They’re unbeaten at home in the league, have some great individual players like Isco, Ayoze Perez, Abde etc who can cause you damage. It’s definitely going to be a big test for us. Especially given their impressive home record. As for Betis, they currently find themselves comfortably mid table. Having scored a total of 22 goals. And conceded only 20. Which is a better defensive record than us. Although we have scored 14 more goals. Despite the fact that that number should definitely be higher.
Predicted lineup:
It’s safe to say, it hasn’t been a smooth beginning to 2024. We haven’t really found our feet and most importantly we haven’t been able to build up any consistency in our performances or results. Something that well be looking to change later today. But that’s really been the story of the season. Performance wise, I don’t think its been that bad. Bar a couple games. But our main frustration this season has been our ineffectiveness in front of goal and our sloppiness in defence. The lack of a defensive midfielder is also really affecting our game. And its obvious. Injuries, suspensions to key players at key times have also added to the frustration. And has also combined to the problem of our lack of consistency. Xavi still doesn’t know he’s strongest lineup because he has to change the team every game. So i feel for him in that respect.
But tonight is a good opportunity to show something different. Some different ideas. To be brave and to prove that we’re trying to do something different with the team. That’s all i want to see. Christensen and cancelo are out of the squad. Which means we could see a league debut for 16 year old Pau Cubarsi who really impressed in midweek. And maybe even Hector Fort too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Roberto at right back. But i hope we see something different. As for the rest of the team, its all pretty much self explanatory. I would shift back to playing 4 midfielders though. That’s my change. A pivot of Gundogan and Frenkie with Pedri and Fermin in front. Lewandowski and Yamal up top. With hopefully some more minutes for Vítor Roque too at centre forward.
My starting 11:
Pena
Roberto- Kounde- Araujo- Balde
Pedri- Gundogan- Frenkie
Yamal- Lewandowski- Fermin
