A quick one this morning as we prepare to play yet another crucial game in our league season. At 9pm local time, its Barca VS Valencia, Live from Mestalla. Which isn’t an easy stadium to go to in the best of times. We’ve had a difficult week, that has to be said. I think the media has been a pain and hasn’t helped things at all. Fact is, we aren’t at our best right now, but just over a week ago we saw what this team is genuinely capable of. And it’s exciting, we just need to get back to it. And the only way we get through this is with unity. Sticking together and working harder than ever before to make sure we find ourselves again. That’s what we need right now.
A Quick Look at our opponents:
When it comes to Valencia, they’ve had a very turbulent couple of season. Especially last season where they, for the most part, were floating above and around the relegation spots. The club isn’t run in a great way by all accounts and a lot of key players have had to go due to FFP. Meaning that in reality, Valencia has a very young team nowadays. Made up mostly of players from their academy. One familiar face that wont be available for the game is Jose Gayá. He’s out of the squad for this evening’s game. No matter what, games away at Mestalla are never easy. It’s such an iconic stadium in Spanish football and the fans always turn up for it. We need to make sure we can match that energy.
Predicted lineup:
In midweek, we rotated heavily. Handing debuts to the likes of Hector Fort at right back. We also saw Marc Guiu score in his champions league debut. Just like he did in La Liga against Athletic Club. He’s a really exciting talent and clearly a clinical finisher. We have had so many problems this season in forward areas. Especially when it comes to finishing off the many chances we create in games. So Guiu is a fresh option that we could depend on to help us with our troubles in front of goal. Quite rankly players like Lewandowski aren’t doing enough. So its nice to have another option waiting in the wings. Guiu is apart of the squad for tonight’s game so could we see him start? We’ll have to wait and see. Fact of the matter is, we need to go with our strongest lineup possible. The only question for me is who will start at left back and who will start at right wing. Yamal had a really impressive game in midweek, but i doubt we’d start him again in such a key game. He’s only 16 and he played the full game a few days back so i think we’re most likely to see Raphinha. Lewandowski is most likely to start down the middle. But i really wouldn’t be against giving Marc Guiu the chance upfront. We need something fresh and different in attack and Guiu could possibly give us that.
My starting 11:
Pena
Cancelo- Araujo- Christensen- Balde
Pedri- Frenkie- Gundogan
Raphinha- Lewandowski- Ferran
