Sergiño Dest, after a difficult loan spell at AC Milan, is one of the players whom Barcelona are trying to get rid off. The American Right Back is not in Xavi’s plan. The club told him to look for a club but he insisted on staying at Barcelona despite knowing that he won’t have any game time.
Initially, he had a loan offer from Union Berlin but now it has disappeared strangely. AC Milan also had a buyout option for 20 million euros but they didn’t execute it because the player’s performance didn’t convince the AC Milan coach, Stefano Pioli, either.
Barcelona is trying to get rid of all the fringe players. It’ll help them to clear up the wage bill in order to register players. In such a dire situation, Fulham and Crystal Palace have arrived from nowhere and showed interest in signing this ex-Ajax Prodigy. They assure that Dest has a good market in England.
In October 2020, Barcelona signed Dest for 21 million euros with variables and add-ons. He has a contract until 2025 by the previous board under Bartomeu. They saw him as a potential replacement for Brazillian legend, Dani Alves.
But the current coach Xavi doesn’t trust him, and the potential signing of Valladolid right back Ivan Fresneda is also making Sergiño Dest’s stay in Barcelona difficult. He’s still young and needs game time in order to develop but his performances have been below average for the Catalan manager to trust him.
Last year Manchester United were also interested in signing him but their interest faded away with time. Now it seems unlikely that the Red Devils will make a move for the Barcelona outcast after the emergence of their two right backs Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.
