Reaction : Out of Copa del Rey final after painful loss in El Clasico

It wasn’t the El Clasico we all hoped for. Far from it. Barça arrived to the game with many missing players. However, this doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get a better result.

Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid beat Barça 4-0 to advance to the Copa del Rey final.

This is the first time in 60 years Madrid wins El Clasico by more than 2 goals margin at the Spotify Camp Nou.

This is the first time since 1995 that Madrid wins El Clasico by at least 4 goals margin.

What happened in the game

Barça started the game well and had few chances to score and kill the game. However, things went wrong right before half-time. Vinicius opened the scoring just before half-time before Benzema struck three times in the second half to set up a meeting with Osasuna next month.

The closest they came was just before the break, when Coirtois saved from Lewandowski, but that only served to set up the Madrid opener.

The away side broke and Benzema squared for Vinicius, whose shot crept over the line.

Xavi’s side didn’t re-appear in the second half and a clinical Madrid side took advantage of that. Modric set up Benzema for the second and the Frenchman’s second came from the penalty spot after Kessie fouled Vinicius.

Benzema completed the scoring late on as Madrid booked their place in their first Copa del Rey final since 2014.

Robert Lewandowski had an awful game with one blocked shot. But it wasn’t only him. The whole team completely lost it after the first goal at the end of the half. Once again the team looks mentally fragile. They have to work on it.
