Diego Pablo Simeone never beat Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou. This is a very common statistic in most coaches. But it becomes more surprising when it’s a coach who has achieved victories in great stadiums like the Santiago Bernabeu, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and San Siro. However, the city of Barcelona has resisted him.
And above all, ‘Cholo’ is in charge of Atletico Madrid for many years, and during this time he has managed to eliminate Barcelona from the Champions League and even win a League on culé terrain. But he never managed to beat them. Their best result so far have been draws four times to one and once to zero.
How about the Atletico players?
Well, one of the simple answers is Griezmann and Memphis Depay that they have done it as locals. In the case of the Frenchman he did it 34 times. The Dutchman won 14 times at the Spotify Camp nou. Let’s remember that neither of them was in the best Barca stage, nor did they have a great continuity. The ‘little Prince’ played both home and away 102 games, scoring 35 goals and had 17 assists. Meanwhile the ‘Lion’ played a total of 42 games, scoring 14 goals.
Although what is interesting in this case is knowing how many players from the current Atletico squad have achieved victory as visitors. After Simeone’s data, players who have spent all or almost their entire career under Cholo’s orders are ruled out. That includes Koke, Gimenez, Correa and saul, among others. For this reason, only two players from the current squad of the Atletico Madrid have made it. One is Marcos Llorente and the other is Alvaro Morata.
From the rest of the players in the Atletico squad, few have visited Barcelona with their previous teams. De Paul did it with Valencia, Griezmann with Real Sociedad, Witsell with Borussia Dortmund and Kondogbia with Sevilla and Valencia. But all of them never managed to beat Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou.
