Yesterday Real Madrid lost 2 vital points vs Betis, and now Barça are 9 points clear at the top of La Liga. And the Madrid media don’t focus on how Xavi’s Barça are collecting points in historic pace. However, you hear everywhere about how Madrid are “handing” the league to Barça. Furthermore, you hear about how Madrid are not doing well this season, comparing to the last season. But is it true?
Last season, after 24 league matches, Real Madrid had 54 points. Furthermore, they scored 48 goals and conceded 20 goals.
This season, after 24 league matches, Real Madrid has 53 points. Furtheremore, they scored 47 goals and conceded 18 goals. Almost identical numbers.
So what’s the difference? It’s Barça that are doing a lot better this season.
After 50 league games in charge, Xavi’s Barça gained 118 points. It’s 1 point more than Pep and Valverde, and 6 less than Luis Enrique’s record. However, he’s the only one who didn’t have Leo Messi in the squad.
Yes, Xavi’s Barça are not ‘Prime Pep team’, and many games end in 1-0. And yes, the failures in Europe showed that he lacks experience. But you have to acknowledge the amazing work that he’s doint, taking the team after it hit rock bottom, and made it compete again.
The easiest thing would be to say that Madrid are not doing well. But the focus should be on Xavi’s amazing work.
And the fact that he’s doing it while the club has to deal with Tebas allegedly trying to destroy it, makes Xavi’s work even more impressive.
