Gavi is the man in fashion at Barça after his stunning Spanish Super Cup final performance. At 18 he is already a key player for Xavi, and the bet for years to come.
How did Barca discover him?
Journalist Josep Capdevila explained on Twitter about the club’s first move for the boy from Los Palacios.
He says that Barcelona started looking at him at the “Benjamin mundialito” for kids in Portugal, where Betis faced Barça. Even thenGavi showed what he is capable of.
He finished the match with four goals and an assist and won the title for his team. Barca saw him and could not let him escape.
Capdevilla: “Pablo (Gavi’s first name) did what Pablo does, his competitive gene, his intensity, being a player that never wants to lose anything, putting all that talent and will to win at the service of his team”.
David Sanchez, the Barca Benjamin coach, said: “Gavi did not let us have the ball, he recovered, moved away from our pressure and offered himself (as an outlet). We couldn’t stop him”.
After the final Gavi stayed at Betis for the 2014-15 season. However, Barca did not forget Gavi and brought him in that summer, ahead of the 15-16 campaign.
From there, his story is more than known.
