Barcelona narrowly avoided a cup catastrophe in Alicante thanks to Ansu Fati’s extra-time winning goal.
They hit an iceberg named Oriol Soldevila. The former La Masia player scored a hat-trick against his former side to take the game to extra-time.
Ronald Araujo sent the Catalans ahead on his return from injury. However Soldevila scored the equalizer after the break.
In the second half Ousmane Dembele scored the 2nd goal in a nice chip. However again Solde was there to score the equalizer.
Raphinha came in and tried to kill the game once and for all with a strike from Jordi Alba’s fine cross. But once again Soldevila capitalized on a Marcos Alonso stagger to even out, driving past Inaki Pena.
Ansu Fati, on off the bench, eventually hit with a work that diverted home in the principal half of extra-time, yet in 2023, when Barcelona are desperate for prize, it was barely enough.
The defense looked shaky, Sergio Busquets was overwhelmed in midfield and both Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay were not clinical at all.
Dembele botched opportunities too, yet at least managed to contribute a goal.
Xavi rested Robert Lewandowski and Pedri. Be that as it may, in the end he wished they had played, as his team were taken to extra-time.
Anyway Ansu scored a goal to help his own confidence and put Barcelona into the Copa del Rey last 16.
