In the final minutes of Barcelona’s victory over Atlético Madrid on Sunday, Ferran Torres and Stefan Savic got into a ‘wrestling’ match in the pitch after a battle for the ball. This prompted a red card for both and they have subsequently both been prohibited for two games.
Ferran will miss the league games against Getafe and Girona. In these two games, Barça will also be without Robert Lewandowski through suspension.
Ferran’s red was the third red card for Barça players in the last three games. An abnormal situation. Jordi Alba was sent off for two bookings against Espanyol and missed the Atletico win.
However, despite the suspension, Ferran will actually want to play the Super Cup semifinal match against Real Betis on Thursday.
Here is the report delivered by referee José Luis Munuera Montero toward the finish of the match at the Wanda Metropolitano:
“In the 90th minute, the player (11) Torres García, Ferran was sent off for the accompanying reason. Persistently getting an opponent by the hair, while the ball was in play yet not inside a distance of being played between them.”
“In the 90th minute, the player (15) Savic, Stefan was sent off for the accompanying reason. Holding an opponent by the neck with his arm continuously with excessive power, while the ball was in play yet not inside a distance of being played between them.”
