What was an open secret in the last few hours is now official: Nico González will play on loan at Valencia next season. FC Barcelona have announced that both the club and Valencia have reached an agreement for the loan without an option to buy. The midfielder will arrive at Mestalla to get the gametime that Xavi Hernández could not promise him.
Before that, the player renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until 2026. The canterano’s release clause is set at 1000 million euros.
Nico Gonzalez needed to have some gametime this season to continue growing and at Barça, it was going to be especially difficult. With the inside midfield already occupied and overcrowded and with the pivot covered by the untouchable Busquets and the alternative of Pjanic, the academy player had no choice but to look for a place elsewhere.
With Gattuso, Nico hopes to get more minutes and establish himself in the Primera Division. He will return to FC Barcelona, where he has been since 2013, once the loan ends on 30 June 2023.
