This coming Saturday, Barcelona look to continue their impressive performances, as they travel to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to take on rivals Getafe. The match is scheduled to take place at 9PM CET, with the blaugranas seeking a win after their recent draw with Sevilla. Therefore in this article, two past encounters between the two clubs will be analysed; with an exciting matchup expected tonight.
FC Barcelona 6-0 Getafe. 12/3/16
This match was very straightforward for the Catalans. As early as the 9th minute, Barcelona managed to secure their first goal. A pass made by Spanish left-back Alba into the box, was intercepted by Getafe Defender Juan Rodriguez. Unfortunately for the Spanish international, this pass had deflected into his own team’s net, bringing the blaugranas into an early lead. About 10 minutes later, Barcelona made it 2-0. An assist coming from Lionel Messi, had allowed Suarez to head the ball into the back of the net; again displaying signs of dominance.
Approaching the 32nd minute, Neymar Jr made it 3-0. Another assist coming from the argentine, had allowed Neymar to create space on the left wing, consequently converting his shot into the third goal. The power and accuracy of Neymar’s shot had meant that it was almost impossible for Guaita to save, with the ball having rolled into the right bottom corner at great speed. Shortly before the first half ended, Messi had made it 4-0, with a beautiful shot coming from outside the box.
On to the second half, Messi had completed his third assist. A through ball to Neymar, had left him one on one with the goalkeeper; beating him on his nearest post. This had marked Neymar’s second goal of the game, concluding an impressive performance by the Brazilian. Before the match ended however, Arda Turan got Barcelona’s 6th goal, with an impressive overhead kick. This marked the end of a convincing game for the Catalans, who dominated throughout.
Getafe 2-2 FC Barcelona. 3/5/14
This match between the two sides was much closer however, with an emphatic draw resulting at the end. The blaugranas were dominating in the first twenty minutes, controlling the action of the game nicely, and creating many chances. The first goal came in the 23rd minute, when the Brazilian Dani Alves, brilliantly assisted Lionel Messi. A central pass inside the box had left Messi free, converting his shot into the first goal. Barcelona’s lead only lasted 15 minutes however, when Getafe striker Lafita scored the second goal of the game, bringing the first half to a close.
In the second half, Barcelona again showed signs of dominance. Barcelona created many chances past Getafe, Maintained possession had opportunities. This resulted in the second goal coming in the 67th minute. An assist by Ex-Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas, on to Alexis Sanchez brought the blaugranas into a winning lead; with a convincing display of possession leading up to the goal. With the match looking done, and Barcelona creating many more chances, Getafe equalized in the 92nd minute. A cross into the box, had left Lafita free, securing his second goal of the match. This concluded a fantastic match; one with much action, intensity and pace throughout.
