July 1

1916 – for the first time an official FC Barcelona document is written in Catalan, the minutes of a board meeting.

1924 – Antoni Ramallets is born. Moreover, he made 288 Liga appearances for the club from 1946-62.

1928 – Ramon Torralba’s farewell testimonial match takes place at Les Corts, a 3-0 win for Nacional Montevideo.

1976 – Patrick Kluivert is born. Moreover, he made 182 Liga appearances for the club from 1998-2004, scoring 90 goals.

1992 – Víctor Valdés joins the club from Peña Cinco Copas.

July 2

1926 – Isidre Flotats is born. Moreover, he made 84 Liga appearances for the club from 1952-60, scoring 3 goals.

1960 – Pele scores as Barcelona win 4-3 against Santos in a friendly game at the Camp Nou. Kubala (2), Villaverde, and Suárez with the goals.

1963 – Lluís Renyé dies

1998 – Juan José Nogués dies

2007 – Barcelona C is disbanded after Joan Laporta chooses not to inscribe the team in Primera Catalana for 2007-08.

2010 – Sandro Rosell strips Johan Cruyff of his title of honorary president of FC Barcelona.

2010 – Yaya Touré leaves the club in a 24m euros deal with Manchester City. In his time with the Catalans he won two Ligas, one Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

July 3

1932 – Josep Samitier scores twice in a friendly game at Les Corts with Real Madrid, ending in a 2-2 draw.

1949 – Goals from Basora and Seguer give Barça a 2-1 victory against Sporting CP in the final of the first Latin Cup, the club’s first European title.

July 4

1971 – Barça come back from 2-0 down to beat Valencia 4-3 after extra time at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Copa del Generalísimo Final.  

July 5

1927 – Paulino Alcantara retires from football

1962 – Roberto Fernández Bonillo is born. Moreover, he made 144 Liga appearances for the club from 1986-90, scoring 35 goals.

1963 – Esteve Fradera is born. Moreover, he made 17 Liga appearances for the club from 1985-87.

1983 – Hennes Weisweiler dies

1984 – Diego Maradona flies in to Napoli to sign for the club after two years with Barça.

July 6

1920 – Former Barcelona player (1939-55) and coach (1963-64) César is born.

2015 – Atletico Madrid confirm the transfer of midfielder Arda Turan to FC Barcelona.

July 7

1926 – Josep Samitier scores for the Catalan XI in a 2-1 defeat to Czechoslovakia in Prague.

1993 – Elemér Berkessy dies

2014 – Txema Corbella, club kitman for over 30 years, is dismissed at the behest of Luis Enrique.

July 8

1954 – Ramón Alberto Villaverde signs for the club from Millonarios for two years, choosing Barça over Real Madrid.

July 9

1995 – Sandro is born. Moreover, he made 17 Liga appearances for the clubf rom 2014-16, scoring 2 goals.

2000 – FC Barcelona player Luís Figo dismisses transfer talk. “I want to reassure fans that Luís Figo, with all the certainty in the world, will be at the Nou Camp on July 24 to start the season,” he said. “And I want to remind people that whatever is said about other clubs, Luís Figo has a contract with Barcelona.”

1942 – Enrique Piñeyro resigns as president and is replaced by Josep Vidal-Ribas, only to return a month later for a second term.

1976 – Edmílson is born. Moreover, he made 71 Liga appearances for the club from 2004-08, scoring 4 goals.

1976 – Ludovic Giuly is born. Moreover, he made 85 Liga appearances for the club from 2004-07, scoring 19 goals.

2008 – Eight members of the Board of Directors resign, including Antoni Rovira, as a result of “the discrepancy about what actions to take following the result of the vote of no confidence on Sunday”, as announced by vice president Albert Vicens.

July 11

1968 – Barça win in the ‘Bottle Final’ 1-0 thanks to an early own goal by Real Madrid’s Zunzunegui to win their 16th Copa. The league was eventually won by Real Madrid but Barça got revenge by beating Madrid 1-0 in the cup final in the Santiago Bernabéu. That day, Sadurní, Torres, Gallego, Eladio, Zabalza, Fusté, Rifé, Zaldúa, Mendonça, Pereda and Rexach could say: “It’s for you, Julio”.

2014 – Liverpool and Barcelona confirm the transfer of Luis Suárez, who signs a five year contract.

2016 – the transfer of French fullback Lucas Digne from PSG for 16.5 million euros is announced.

2017 – Barcelona announce the signing of Benfica right back Nélson Semedo to the club.

1909 – Alejandro Morera Soto born. Moreover, he made 76 appearances for the club from 1933-35, scoring 63 goals.

2006 – Barça announce a five year agreement with UNICEF which will see the club carry the UNICEF logo on their shirts and donate 1.5 million per year.

2016 – New signing Samuel Umtiti is presented to the press.

1934 – Esteve Sala takes over as president from Joan Coma.

1952 – Enric Martí Carreto becomes president of the club.

1980 – Sergio Santamaría is born. Moreover, he made 6 Liga appearances for the club from 2000-05.

1988 – Sergio Busquets is born

2008 – Alexander Hleb joins Barcelona from Arsenal.

1921 – Joan Gamper begins his fourth spell as club president.

1936 – Civil War breaks out in Spain.

1896 – Sancho is born. Moreover, he made 402 appearances for the club from 1916-22 and 1923-28, scoring 44 goals.

2015 – Josep Maria Bartomeu is re-elected president of FC Barcelona with 54.63% of the vote.

July 19

1936 – The People’s Olympiad – a protest against the Berlin Olympics was due to open. It is now cancelled due to Civil War.

1960 – Raúl Vicente Amarilla is born. Moreover, he made 35 Liga appearances for the club from 1985-88, scoring 9 goals.

1967 – Carles Busquets is born. Moreover, he made 79 Liga appearances for the club from 1990-99.

1989 – Neto is born

2003 – Ronaldinho arrives in Barcelona to sign with the club.

2013 – Tito Vilanova steps down as first team coach after one season due to health reasons.

2014 – Barcelona lift the Trofeo Colombino, winning 1-0 against Recreativo, Marked Recreativo’s 125th anniversary. 

2019 – Former Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés returns to the club to coach the Juvenil A side.

July 20

1975 – Quique Álvarez is born. Moreover, he made 1 Liga appearance for the club from 1995-98.

1993 – Lucas Digne is born. Moreover, he made 29 Liga appearances from 2016-18.

2001 – Javier Saviola is presented as a new Barcelona player.

2003 – Ronaldinho is presented as a Barça player, completing a 30m euros move from Paris Saint-Germain.

July 22

1927 – Dagoberto Moll is born. Moreover, he made 16 Liga appearances for the club from 1954-55, scoring 4 goals.

1936 – Juan Seminario is born. Moreover, he made 49 Liga appearances for the club from 1964-67, scoring 20 goals.

1979 – Former FC Barcelona striker Sándor Kocsis dies aged 49 in Barcelona after a hospital fall.

1996 – Luis Enrique and Juan Antonio Pizzi are presented as Barcelona players.

2013 – Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is announced as the new coach of FC Barcelona, replacing Tito Vilanova.

2014 – Barcelona finally sign a centre back, Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu for 20m Euros.

2017 – Barcelona open the Valverde era with a 2-1 win over Juventus.

1984 – Steve Archibald joins the club from Tottenham Hotspur.  

1986 – Gary Lineker is presented as a FC Barcelona player.

2000 – Luís Figo moves to Real Madrid for a record 10bn pesetas.  

2013 – Barcelona lose 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich in the first game of the season. Goals: Lahm, Manzukic.

July 25

1992 – Barcelona’s 1992 Summer Olympics begins.

1988 – Paulinho is born. Moreover, he made 34 Liga appearances for the clubu from 2017-18, scoring 9 goals.

2014 – Deco’s tribute match between Porto 2004 & Barcelona 2006 ends 4-4.

July 26

2013 – Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is presented to the press as the new coach of FC Barcelona, replacing Tito Vilanova.

July 27

1935 – Josep Sunyol is elected president and entrusted with the task of sorting out the financial problems. His predecessor Esteve Sala would become treasurer and help close the season at a profit. On the pitch the team won the Catalan Championship and reached the 1936 Copa final.

1975 – The minutes of a junta of directors meeting are recorded in Catalan for first time since before the Civil War.

2009 – Samuel Eto’o passes his medical and signs a five-year contract with Internazionale.

July 28

1938 – Former Barcelona coach (1987-88) Luis Aragonés is born.

1966 – Miguel Ángel Nadal is born. Moreover, he made 208 Liga appearances for the club from 1991-99, scoring 12 goals.

1982 – 50,000 fans attend the pre-season presentation ceremony at the Camp Nou including new signing Diego Maradona

1987 – Pedro is born. Moreover, he made 204 Liga appearances for the club from 2008-15, scoring 58 goals.

2000 – Barça sign Emmanuel Petit and Marc Overmars from Arsenal for a combined fee of over 30million euros.

2004 – Following the departure of Luis Enrique and Cocu, Carles Puyol is officially named Barcelona captain.

July 29

1923 – Eric Cardona takes over from Joan Gamper as club president.

1938 – Pedro Zaballa is born. Moreover, he made 109 Liga appearances for the club from 1961-67, scoring 28 goals.

1984 – FC Barcelona sign a teenage Pep Guardiola.

2013 – Former (1947-1961) Barcelona goalkeeper Antoni Ramallets has dies aged 89

2017 – Barcelona defeat Real Madrid 3-2 in Miami. Goals from: Messi, Rakitic and Piqué
