There is positive news for Barça Atlètic and head coach Juliano Belletti. According to Mundo Deportivo, academy forward Òscar Gistau is in the final phase of his recovery and is expected to rejoin group training next week after working individually in recent sessions.
The 17-year-old was sidelined at the beginning of October following surgery to repair a partial tear in the outer meniscus of his left knee. The initial prognosis suggested an absence of around three months, but the striker has recovered ahead of schedule and could return during the first week of January.
Early Promise Interrupted by Injury
Before his setback, Gistau had been one of the most promising names in the academy setup. He started the first three matches of the season for Barça Atlètic and also featured in the UEFA Youth League against Newcastle, scoring a brace that highlighted his natural finishing ability.
His form at the start of the campaign convinced Belletti to make him a central part of his attacking plans. Within La Masia, Gistau is considered one of the most talented young forwards in the current generation, praised for his intelligence in movement and composure in front of goal. His early return is seen as an important boost for the team heading into the second half of the season.
Challenges and Competition Ahead
Gistau’s recovery comes at a crucial time for Barça Atlètic, who have dealt with multiple injury setbacks in attack. His teammate Víctor Barberà was also forced to undergo surgery in late October for a torn right quadriceps muscle and is not expected back until the spring.
In addition, Barcelona are exploring the possibility of adding further attacking depth in January, with Hamza Abdelkarim being considered as a potential reinforcement for the reserve squad.
Looking Ahead
If his recovery continues as planned, Gistau could be available for selection within the first weeks of the new year. His return will not only provide depth to Belletti’s attacking options but also serve as a reminder of the strong talent pipeline that continues to define La Masia.
Bottom line
Òscar Gistau is on track to return ahead of schedule after recovering from knee surgery. His comeback represents a major boost for Barça Atlètic and a reaffirmation of his status as one of La Masia’s brightest prospects.
