FC Barcelona continues exploring different options to strengthen its attack ahead of the next summer transfer window. Although the club’s main priority remains signing a striker, the sporting department is also keeping several alternatives open in other attacking positions.
One of the names that has recently appeared on Barcelona’s radar is Pedro Neto, the Portuguese winger currently playing for Chelsea FC.
According to Fernando Polo in Mundo Deportivo, the player is being monitored by Barcelona’s scouting department in case the club eventually needs to reinforce the winger position. At the moment there are no negotiations underway, but the Portuguese international is one of the profiles appreciated by the club’s technical staff.
A fast and explosive winger
Pedro Neto, 25, is known for his pace and his ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. Developed at SC Braga, he moved to the Premier League at a very young age and established himself as one of the most dangerous wingers during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
His style of play fits well with the type of wide attackers Barcelona usually looks for. Neto is capable of playing on both flanks, which offers significant tactical flexibility for coach Hansi Flick.
He can operate on the left wing to cut inside or on the right side to exploit his speed in open space.
In addition to his dribbling ability, Neto also stands out for his vision and his capacity to create assists, making him a very complete attacking player.
The connection with Jorge Mendes
One factor that could potentially facilitate a future deal is the strong relationship between Barcelona and Jorge Mendes, Neto’s agent.
Mendes maintains close contact with Barcelona’s sporting department and has been involved in several important deals with the club over the past years.
That relationship could become relevant if Barcelona decides to seriously pursue the winger.
A move dependent on the transfer market
Despite the interest in Neto, sources inside the club insist that signing a winger is not currently a priority.
Barcelona already has important players in that position such as Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Ferran Torres, as well as other attacking profiles capable of playing on the wings.
For that reason, the interest in Pedro Neto remains at the monitoring stage and will depend largely on how Barcelona’s transfer planning evolves over the summer.
If departures occur in the attacking line or the club decides to increase offensive depth, the Portuguese winger could emerge as one of the most attractive options to strengthen Flick’s project.
