Barcelona head into Matchday 6 of La Liga on a high. After a slow and frustrating start to the campaign, Hansi Flick’s team have put together three straight wins in all competitions since the international break. Confidence is growing, the attack is clicking, and the defense looks sharper with every game.
The Blaugrana remain focused on chasing Real Madrid at the top of the table. Los Blancos are still perfect, but Barça know they can only control their own results. Every game matters, and a tricky trip to northern Spain against Real Oviedo is the next challenge.
Barça will be heavy favorites at the Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere, but Flick has been clear: there’s no room for arrogance. The team must approach this with the same intensity they’ve shown in recent weeks.
A Look at the Opponent: Real Oviedo’s Return to La Liga
Real Oviedo are back in La Liga for the first time in 24 years, completing one of the most inspiring journeys in Spanish football. At one point, they were on the verge of disappearing altogether, relying on donations from former players and fans to stay alive. Today, they proudly host Barcelona in front of a passionate fanbase.
The return has been tough, though. Oviedo’s squad is one of the weakest in the division, and the results show it. They have lost four of their first five matches and scored only once this season. That lone goal brought them a famous win against Real Sociedad, but overall survival looks like a huge challenge.
Injuries have not helped either. Several key players are either out or doubtful, making the task against Barça even harder. Despite that, Oviedo will lean on the magic of their home crowd and the leadership of veterans like Salomón Rondón to try and pull off a miracle.
Barcelona’s Possible XI
Defense: Joan García is expected to continue in goal. In front of him, Jules Kounde, Ronald Araújo, Pau Cubarsí, and Gerard Martín should form the back four. However, Hansi Flick might wanna rotate and give some minutes to Eric, Christensen or Jofre Torrents. Alejandro Balde remains sidelined.
Midfield: Marc Casadó and either Frenkie or Pedri are the likely pivots, tasked with controlling tempo and dictating play. The absences of Gavi and Fermín López limit Flick’s rotation options.
Attack: The front four could feature Raphinha and Rashford on the wings, Dani Olmo in the free role, and Ferran Torres or Lewandowski leading the line. Lamine Yamal is still out injured, which leaves space for Rashford to cement his role.
Score Prediction
On paper, this is a mismatch. Oviedo’s defense has struggled to keep out stronger opponents, and their attack has produced just one goal in five matches. Barça, meanwhile, are starting to find rhythm under Flick, with Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Rashford all in good form.
If Barcelona stay focused, they should control the match from start to finish. Oviedo may show fight, but the gulf in quality is too large to ignore.
Prediction: Real Oviedo 0-3 FC Barcelona
