Playing at the San Mames is never easy. Barcelona’s record of 2 wins in the last 8 games there is no coincidence. However, tonight, the atmosphere was even more intense as the local fans made their voice heard due to recent scandal. But once again, Xavi’s players get the job done, as FC Barcelona get the 3 points vs Athletic Bilbao. Now, Barcelona will reach ‘El Clasico’ with 9 points lead at the top of La Liga. A win next week will pretty much settle the league title for Xavi.
The game tonight wasn’t easy at all, and it was fair to say that Athletic Bilbao had better chances to score than FC Barcelona. However, he first clear chance came from Barcelona. De Jong found Robert Lewandowski, but the Pole didn’t manage to score a goal.
Just before half time, Busquets found Raphinha, who scored the goal. At first, our ‘favourite’ ref, Gil Manzano disallowed the goal. However, as VAR showed, there was no offside there. The goal stands and at half time Barcelona lead by one goal.

At the second half, Athletic Bilbao made some changes that made them more dangerous. Iker Muniain came in and once again showed what he was capable of. A good shot from the edge of the box was close, but Ter Stegen saved. Few minutes later, another clear chance for Athletic Bilbao, but the Barcelona keeper saved the shot once again.
At the 86th minute, Athletic Bilbao managed to score the equalizer vs Barcelona, as Inaki Williams managed to beat Ter Stegen. However, VAR found that at the start of the play, Muniain touched the ball with his hand.
At the end of the day, it’s another 1-0 win for FC Barcelona, but a win in Bilbao is always great. Barcelona will come back home and start preparing for El Clasico next week. It’s a clear chance to be closer to the league title.
