Nearly 20 years ago, in a Barcelona fans forum far far away, a young me used to discuss everything related to the club. It was before social media was a thingm no Twitter and no Facebook were around. One day I read an article about this young upcoming talent from La Masia. And his name was Lionel Messi.
For me, Lionel Messi didn’t need to win the World Cup in order for me to consider him as the GOAT. He proved it a long time ago. The fact that he’s so consistent for so many years is what sets him apart from the other big names like Maradona or Pele.
Tonight, the most beautiful story ended with Leo Messi getting the trophy that he wanted so so much. The guy that already won everything finally won the biggest trophy of all. And we were all there to see it.
But like a good story, this one had many twists and turns. Many times it looked like it was all over for Messi and his dream. People called him a loser, said he wasn’t a leader, that he didn’t sing the anthem loud enough, or whatever.
But eventually, Leo won tonight. Football won tonight. We fans won tonight.
Like every good story, this one has a happy ending.
