“I have something special when I play against Madrid and I hope it continues,” said Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in an interview with ESPN, in which he opened up on some of FC Barcelona’s other strikers and also about the pre-season el clásico in Las Vegas.
“When the signing of Lewandowski became official, I was happy and pleased,” confessed the Gabon attacker. He recalled his past at Dortmund, where they played together in the 2013/14 season, and noted that “now we have more experience and, therefore, we can do better than in the past. I’m sure we will both give our best to improve the numbers we had at Dortmund.”
The arrival of the Polish striker will be a boost to the team’s competitive level. “I am also very happy because Barça will be able to compete to win titles with all the great strikers we have; we also have very good midfielders and defenders,” believes Aubameyang, who also felt positive about the renewal of Dembélé. “His quality is crazy and every time I play with him on the pitch, I enjoy it,” he said about the Frenchman.
Another name that Auba highlighted was Xavi himself. “He has been one of the best players in the world, but as a coach, he also has a good vision; he wants Barça to play with the ball under control and always looking ahead. We have enough motivation to fight and compete for all the titles; we are building an incredible team,” he added.
His romance with scoring against Real Madrid
Aubameyang’s name has been synonymous with goals every time he has played against Real Madrid, with seven goals in seven games. His last two celebrations against Madrid came in La Liga, at the Santiago Bernabeu when Barca won 0-4. “I have something special when I play against Madrid and I hope it continues,” he confessed. In Las Vegas, the Barcelona striker now has another Clásico to add to his record. “Facing Real Madrid is always exciting and you are extra motivated,” he said.
Aubameyang also confessed to “enjoying it a lot” since arriving at FC Barcelona. In the United States, he will prepare to begin his second season at Barça, now with the dream of being part of a competitive team that will fight for all titles.
