Without Quim Junyent, who was left out due to an inflamed pubic muscle, three FC Barcelona youth players who are part of Juliano Belletti‘s reserve team took part in the Netherlands-Spain (0-1) at the Pinatar Arena U-19 Tournament. Forward Shane Kluivert was defeated by midfielder Xavi Espart and attacking midfielder Juan Hernández.
Espart, who usually plays as a right-back for Barça Atlètic, was positioned in his original midfield role for the Spanish U-19 national team, wearing the number ‘6’ jersey. He played the full 90 minutes, while attacking midfielder Juan Hernández also started and was substituted in the 82nd minute. Meanwhile, Kluivert also played the entire match and missed the chance to equalize a penalty goal by Yáñez, as his chip shot over the advancing goalkeeper went over the crossbar.
The three players will miss the reserve team’s league opener on Sunday 7th at 12 PM against Porreres, as they will remain in Murcia to play two more matches against England (Saturday 6th) and Ukraine (Tuesday 9th). Additionally, central defender Andrés Cuenca will also miss playing with Barça Atlètic, as he will be representing Spain U-20 in two matches against France in Clairefontaine on Thursday at 4 PM and Sunday at 11 AM.
