After a string of underwhelming performances that saw them drop crucial points in La Liga, Barcelona emphatically returned to winning ways, dismantling Mallorca 5-1 on their own turf. The victory at the Son Moix was a showcase of Barcelona’s lethal attacking prowess, particularly in the second half, where the team turned a level game into a rout within minutes.

From the onset, Barcelona imposed their style, dominating possession and probing the Mallorca defense. The breakthrough came just 12 minutes into the game thanks to a defensive mix-up from Mallorca’s Martin Valjent and Johan Mojica, which Ferran Torres capitalized on to give Barca an early lead.

Despite their dominance, Barcelona found themselves pegged back in the 43rd minute. A rare break from Mallorca saw Pablo Maffeo cleverly square the ball to Vedat Muriqi, who made no mistake from close range, exploiting Barcelona’s high defensive line.

The first half concluded with a flurry of chances for Barcelona, including a heart-stopping moment where Raphinha’s close-range effort was thwarted by the quick reflexes of Mallorca’s goalkeeper, Leo Román. Afterwards, the follow-up volley from Lamine Yamal narrowly missed, leaving the sides level at the break.

Second Half

The second half saw Barcelona shift gears, and within nine minutes, they were awarded a penalty. Dani Olmo, ever the creative spark, threaded a perfect ball to Yamal, who was brought down by Mojica. Raphinha stepped up and converted the spot-kick with aplomb, restoring Barcelona’s lead.

Barcelona’s relentless pressure continued, and in the 74th minute, the game was effectively put beyond Mallorca’s reach. A sublime piece of skill on the right touchline by Yamal. The Golden Boy delivered a perfect cross with the outside of his boot. There he found Raphinha again, and the Brazilian nodded home for his second of the night.

The goals didn’t stop there. Frenkie de Jong, coming off the bench, added a fourth in the 79th minute. It was a well-timed strike from the edge of the box. The rout was completed by another substitute, Pau Victor, who pounced on a cutback from de Jong to make it five.

A needed statement

Barcelona’s victory was not just about the goals; it was a statement of intent. With this win, Barcelona ended their winless streak. However, it also laid down a marker for the rest of the season. The team showed a blend of tactical discipline and attacking flair. However, the standout performances were Raphinha and Yamal, who were involved in almost all the key moments.

As Barcelona look ahead to their upcoming fixtures, this result will surely boost their confidence. Barcelona will hope that this victory is the catalyst for a strong finish to their campaign, keeping them firmly in the title race.
