After a disappointing performance, especially 2nd half display in midweek, we turn our attention back to La Liga. Where we will be looking to set things back on track, in Andalusia. From 4:15pm local time, live from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, it’s Barça up against Sevilla. In a classic La Liga fixture in the afternoon slot on a Sunday, we’ll be looking at improving on what we saw in midweek, again with a few absences from the team. Ahead of yet another boring and long international break, it’s important to move into the break with momentum. This afternoon, that is exactly what we’ll be looking to do. Let’s jump into the preview!
Now on paper, these two teams are two of the most historic in Spanish football. When you’re looking at Sevilla, they are decorated winners in Europe and domestically and have been blessed with having some of the best players in Spain and sometimes the world, play for them. However, for a multitude of different reasons and factors, over the last few years, Sevilla haven’t been anywhere near the same team. They’ve been going backwards and have had to sell the majority of their best players, just so they can comply with La Liga’s ridiculous FFP restrictions. This season so far, they’ve been a bit of a mixed bag, finding themselves comfortably mid table, at 10th place. For their standard, of course they’re far behind. But compared to recent years, they’ve haven’t had that bad of a start. It’s going to be a difficult game, away from home in the Andalusian heat, but even with the absentees in our squad. We should still have more than enough to improve on what we saw from Barça earlier on in the week.
Predicted Starting Lineup
In terms of our lineup for the game, at the moment, we are looking pretty light on numbers. I think, to be honest, we’re starting to see the results of a poor summer transfer window. Yes we improved a lot in the goalkeeping position with Joan Garcia. It was an unbelievable signing for the present and the future. But the problem is, we didn’t do anything else. And now we’re starting to see the results of having quite a light squad. Coming into the game, we will be without Joan Garcia, Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal. For me, Pedri definitely should be rested for the game this afternoon. He, out of everyone, is in need of a well deserved break. I’d also be looking at dropping Dani Olmo to the bench too after such an underwhelming start to the season. It might not happen, but id love to see Toni Fernandez given a shot as his replacement. Or even another game for Dro. Apart from that, and dropping Martin for Balde in defence. I’d expect things to remain fairly similar to the PSG games, mainly due to the lack of other options. Lewandowski should also be brought back into the starting lineup.
My Starting 11:
Tek
Kounde- Araujo- Cubarsi- Balde
Frenkie- Casado
Roony- Dro- Rashford
Lewandowski
