Frenkie de Jong’s importance shown again in El Clasico
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatApp

Frenkie de Jong was key in the victory of Barça (0-1) in El Clasico last night. In the past, Frenkie already left his mark with Ajax (1-4) in the round of 16 second leg of the 2018-19 Champions League. Furthermore, as a Barça player Frenkie was key on the 0-4 win in El Clasico last season.

As the OPTA statistics reflect, the Dutch midfielder was the second player on the Barcelona team who completed the most passes with 36. He was only behind Marcos Alonso. Moreover, De Jong had a 90% success rate in pass accuracy, only surpassed by Kessie and Koundé in the Catalan club. Furthermore, he was the second player of the Barça in completed dribbles (2), behind Alejandro Balde (3).

Frenkie stretched the lines when Madrid more enclosed Barça with a rebellion that exposed Vinicius who could only stop him with a Greco-Roman key and the consequent yellow card shown by Montero before the protests of the Brazilian given the obvious lack.

The data from Frenkie are very significant considering his position in the midfield and they show that, with the crucial loss of Pedri, Frenkie took a step forward in control with the ball despite not being a game with a lot of culé possession, the lowest since 2008 with 35%.

Frenkie De Jong has been analyzed with a magnifying glass after his arrival at the club in the summer of 2019. Now, with the new game scheme of Xavi with four midfielders, he has found his most comfortable place on the pitch, delighting with his best football. The confidence that Xavi Hernandez deposits in him is maximum and has become immovable in important games for the coach.
