Alessandro Bastoni remains one of Barcelona’s main targets for the summer transfer window, and fresh developments are now helping define the direction of the operation.
Inside the club, there is no real doubt about his appeal. Bastoni is highly rated by the sporting department, and that view has not changed despite his recent sending-off. Barça still see him as the ideal centre-back to strengthen the defence and raise the overall level of the back line.
But there is one major obstacle that continues to shape everything.

€50 million will not be enough
The first message coming out of the situation is clear. An offer worth €50 million would not be enough to convince Inter to sell Bastoni. The Italian club have no intention of letting one of their most important defenders leave on the cheap.
The figures being discussed are significantly higher. In Italy, the valuation is said to be in the region of €70-80 million, a price that immediately makes the operation far more difficult for Barcelona.
That said, there is one important detail that keeps the door from being completely shut.
Inter have opened the door to early talks
Even with that demanding starting point, Inter have allowed initial contacts to take place. Both the board and the sporting structure are understood to have accepted that Barcelona can begin exploring the player’s side of the deal.
Those conversations are already underway. Barça are working on the contractual framework and on how Bastoni would fit into the sporting project if the move ever becomes possible.
For now, there is still no full negotiation directly between the two clubs. But the first step has already been taken, and that matters.
There is still room to negotiate
Although Inter’s public valuation is very high, the structure of a possible deal could still leave some room for movement. One of the scenarios being discussed is a package starting at around €40-45 million plus variables.
That type of formula would allow Barcelona to build a more realistic proposal and try to close the gap without putting too much pressure on the club’s finances. It would not solve everything, but it could help bring the two sides closer.
There is also another option on the table. Barcelona have not ruled out including players in the operation if that helps reduce the final cost and makes the deal more manageable.

Bastoni is still the chosen one
Inside Barcelona, the feeling remains strong. Bastoni is still seen as the priority option to reinforce the defence. His left foot, composure on the ball, experience and leadership make him a profile that fits perfectly with the style the club want to build.
That is why Barça are prepared to make a serious effort. They know it will not be an easy operation, and they also know Inter will be tough negotiators. Even so, this is one of the club’s biggest bets for the summer.
The picture is becoming clearer.
Barcelona are moving, Inter have set their price, and Bastoni is waiting to see whether the deal can truly take shape.
