The situation of Ferran Torres is beginning to generate debate within the environment of FC Barcelona. The Spanish forward’s contract expires at the end of next season, and for now there is still no agreement to extend his deal with the club.
This contrasts with what has happened with other players in the squad such as Raphinha and Jules Koundé, who arrived at Barcelona even after Ferran and have already renewed their contracts.
He could reach the summer with only one year left
If the situation does not change in the coming months, Ferran could enter the next summer transfer window with just one year remaining on his contract.
That scenario usually creates concern at top clubs because it opens the door to two major risks:
- The player leaving for a reduced transfer fee
- Or even departing for free when his contract expires the following year

A long-standing rule at Barça
Historically, Barcelona has tried to avoid this situation. Inside the club there has long been an unwritten rule: no important player should start a season in the final year of their contract.
However, this policy has recently been challenged. For example, Andreas Christensen already began this season with his deal entering its final year.
That situation shows that, under certain circumstances, the club may be willing to adjust its strategy.
Three possible scenarios
Ferran Torres’ future could develop in several different ways:
Contract renewal
Barcelona could decide to extend his contract and keep him as part of the long-term sporting project.
Sale this summer
If no renewal is reached, the club might sell him in order to avoid losing him for free later.
Stay until 2027 without renewing
Another possibility is that Barcelona keeps the player without extending his contract and evaluates his performance over the next season.
A useful player for the squad
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Ferran Torres remains an important option in the team’s attacking rotation.
Barcelona has lost depth in attack after the departure of Marc Guiu, and the club is currently looking to sign a top-level striker to strengthen the squad.
Meanwhile, Hamza Abdelkarim is still considered a long-term prospect, and within La Masia there does not appear to be a striker ready to make the immediate jump to the first team.
A decisive summer ahead
For all these reasons, the Ferran Torres case could become one of the key topics of the next transfer window.
Barcelona will have to decide whether to renew his contract, sell him, or keep him as a rotation player within the project led by Hansi Flick.
