Barça Atlètic earned a last-minute reward for their perseverance in their Segunda RFEF debut. The newly promoted team UE Porreres was just minutes away from securing a point at Johan Cruyff Stadium with a perfectly executed conservative strategy that almost paid off. Under Iuliano Belletti, fresh from his success with the European champion youth team, Barça Atlètic celebrated a victory that was more about determination than brilliance. Despite missed opportunities, including a glaring penalty that the referee overlooked, they deserved a less anxious finish to their opening game in a league they were relegated to after last season’s frustration. In injury time, goals from Víctor Barberà and Toni Fernández earned Barça Atlètic three points, starting their campaign to develop players and return to the division they lost a few months ago.
The match script at a Johan Cruyff Stadium with 1,057 spectators went as expected: total territorial dominance by the hosts and a deep defensive posture by the visitors, who rarely troubled Eder Aller’s goal. Although they aimed for quick counterattacks, they were neither frequent nor threatening. Barça Atlètic, in contrast, ran the first half through Sama Nomoko, who was consistently challenging on the right wing, complemented by the technical flair of Pedro Fernández ‘Dro’, and in the second half through the persistence of Toni Fernández. Nonetheless, the standout player was Víctor Barberà, who came on to replace Gistau with fifteen minutes to go, changing the match’s course.
