FC Barcelona have already begun shaping their attacking plan for next season. Despite the club currently going through an electoral process, the sporting department led by Deco and coach Hansi Flick has identified a clear priority: reinforcing the striker position ahead of the post-Robert Lewandowski era.
Lewandowski, now 37, is entering the final phase of his career at the highest level. Inside the club there is full awareness that the striker market next summer will be extremely complex, with very few elite options available and prices soaring across Europe.
For that reason, Barça are analysing several alternatives. One of the names gaining attention in the club’s internal reports is Omar Marmoush, currently playing for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
A realistic alternative to Julián Álvarez
Barcelona’s dream target remains Julián Álvarez. However, the operation appears extremely complicated. Atlético Madrid have publicly insisted that they have no intention of selling the Argentine forward.
Reports suggest that any potential deal would require a fee close to €150 million — a figure currently impossible for Barcelona to reach given their financial limitations.
Because of that, the sporting department is working simultaneously on more realistic alternatives. Marmoush has emerged as one of the most interesting profiles for Flick’s attacking system.
A player Barça have followed for years
According to Sport, Barcelona already monitored the Egyptian forward closely during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. In the Bundesliga, Marmoush developed into one of the league’s most productive attackers thanks to his speed, movement and finishing ability.
His performances caught Guardiola’s attention, leading Manchester City to sign him in January 2025 for approximately €75 million.
Yet the transition to the Premier League has not been simple.
The Haaland obstacle
At City, the central striker position is firmly occupied by Erling Haaland. The Norwegian remains untouchable in Guardiola’s system, which has naturally limited Marmoush’s opportunities.
Although the Egyptian has delivered strong performances when given minutes, the lack of regular playing time has started to generate frustration around the player’s camp.
This situation is precisely what Barcelona are monitoring closely.
A potentially affordable operation
Inside Barça, there is belief that Manchester City could consider a sale if Marmoush decides to pursue a bigger role elsewhere. According to internal estimates, the transfer could be completed for around €40–50 million — significantly less than the fee City paid just a year ago.
That price would make him a relatively accessible option for the Catalan club.
His profile also fits perfectly with Flick’s tactical vision: a forward capable of linking play, attacking space and contributing goals while remaining flexible across several attacking positions.
For now, Julián Álvarez remains the dream target. But if that deal proves impossible, Omar Marmoush could quickly become one of the most serious options on Barcelona’s summer shortlist.
