Breaking news. Alejandro Balde has sustained a “minor injury to the hamstring of his left leg,” as the club itself announced on their social media this Wednesday. Barça has not specified the duration of his absence, stating instead that his progress will determine his return, although according to COPE, the left-back might be out of action for three to four weeks.
It’s worth noting that the defender had previously suffered a setback in Leganés last April in the same area when he sustained a distal injury to the femoral biceps of his left thigh, causing him to miss the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan. It’s important to differentiate that Balde endured a serious femoral biceps injury in January 2024, which required surgery and sidelined him for the rest of the season, but this was on his right leg.
Cautious Approach from the Club
Given the recurrence of such injuries, the club is approaching the situation with caution and he might not return to play this September. If the timeline presented by the media holds true, Balde would miss the match against Valencia (September 14), the Champions League debut against Newcastle (September 18), the LaLiga matches against Getafe (September 21), Oviedo (September 24), and could potentially make it just in time against Real Sociedad (September 28) or PSG (October 1).
Club’s Official Medical Statement
The club’s medical statement reads: “Alejandro Balde has suffered a minor injury to the hamstring of his left leg during today’s training session. His progress will determine his availability”.
Impact on Barça Atlètic
Consequently, Jofre Torrents did not join the training session with the rest of the academy players ahead of the Barça Atlètic match this weekend, which marks their debut in the Segunda RFEF against Porreres.
