Barça are looking for a new right-back for a while now, after the Azpilicueta deal fell. Other names like Bellerin and Foyth came out as options. But now, recent reports suggest a move for Rennes captain Hamari Traore.
According to L’Equipe, Barca “started negotiations” for the 30-year-old full-back. Furthermore, it says in that eeport that he “ticks a lot of boxes for Barcelona”.
Moreover, he is a low-cost option as he’s in the final year of his existing deal. A bid of around €3 million euros might be enough to convince Rennes to sell.
Rennes would also be happy to avoid losing Traore on a free next year. Rennes signed the fullback for €2.5m five years ago.
The captain is also one of the club’s highest earners which means his exit would free up a bit of budget for the Ligue 1 side.
It looks like Traore is gaining power as the ‘low-cost ‘ option. Meanwhile, Foyth is still the number one in the list. However, the club doesn’t want to pay his release clause.
