The To-Do List of Mateu Alemany Before Departing

Mateu Alemany, FC Barcelona’s director of football, will leave the club at the end of the season. In the announcement made by the club, it was stated that Alemany will continue until all the planned operations for the summer are completed. There is a lot of important work to be done, and Alemany’s role is crucial in the following areas:

1. Approval of Viability Plan

Alemany’s main priority is to get LaLiga’s approval of the viability plan that Barça sent at the end of April. This plan includes economic measures, with the aim of reducing the wage bill by around 200 million euros and raising 100 million euros in transfers. The approval of this plan is essential for Barça to be able to make the first moves in their squad planning for next season.

2. Registrations

Alemany needs to ensure the registration of the newly renewed contracts of Gavi, Araujo, Marcos Alonso, and Sergi Roberto, under the new conditions set by LaLiga. Failure to register these players could lead to Gavi leaving for free, as he has a clause that allows him to leave if he is not registered with the first team on 1 July. Alemany’s first challenge is to close this file.

3. Renewals

Alemany must close the renewals of Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal. Balde’s renewal until 2027 is on the verge of an agreement, and Yamal is also on the right track to sign his first professional contract with Barça when he turns 16 on 13 July. Dembélé’s renewal is also in progress, and there won’t be any major issues regarding his contract.

4. Loan Players

Ez Abde is the only player who has a real chance of returning and staying at Barça. Alemany must find a way out for the others, including Samuel Umtiti, Serginño Dest, and Alex Collado.

5. Exits

Alemany’s biggest challenge is to close some important transfers before leaving for Aston Villa. Barça needs money to make signings and must sell a player of weight who has been made transferable due to the economic situation the club is going through. The club will listen to offers for Franck Kessie, Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia, Ferran Torres, and Raphinha. They are also awaiting the decision of Busquets and Jordi Alba.

6. Signings

Apart from the strategic signing of Leo Messi, Alemany has already left a lot of work done in terms of signings. Iñigo Martínez is awaiting LaLiga for his registration. With Ilkay Gündogan, too, everything is going well. Another midfielder, a pivot, a center forward, and a winger may also arrive. Talks are underway to put a clause in the contracts to guarantee that they can be registered.

Mateu Alemany has a challenging task ahead, but with his experience and expertise, he is more than capable of completing these operations successfully. FC Barcelona fans will be watching closely as the summer transfer window unfolds.
