FC Barcelona received encouraging news ahead of the Champions League clash against Newcastle United. Gavi trained normally with the rest of the squad at St James’ Park, a clear sign that the midfielder is getting closer to returning to competition.
However, despite his presence in training, head coach Hansi Flick made it clear during the pre-match press conference that the plan remains unchanged.
The German manager wants the player to wait until after the upcoming international break before returning to official matches, aiming to avoid any unnecessary physical risk.
Full training session at St James’ Park
Images from the session showed Gavi participating in the team’s training activities ahead of the European fixture. The midfielder worked alongside the rest of the squad, indicating that his recovery process is almost complete.
Even so, the coaching staff prefers to remain cautious.
The player is not expected to feature in the match against Newcastle, nor in the immediate upcoming games.
Flick insists on patience
Flick recently explained that the priority is for Gavi to return in optimal condition rather than rushing his comeback.
After several months marked by physical issues, the club wants to eliminate any possibility of relapse during such a decisive phase of the season.
For that reason, the current roadmap is for the midfielder to return after the international break, when he can compete without restrictions.
A highly anticipated comeback
Gavi’s return is expected to be one of the most positive developments for Barcelona in the final stretch of the campaign.
The midfielder is considered a key figure in the club’s long-term project, with his intensity, leadership and pressing ability playing a major role in Flick’s tactical system.
For now, the player continues to train with the group and steadily prepare for his long-awaited return to competitive action.
