The name of Rafael Leão is once again gaining momentum in the plans of FC Barcelona ahead of the summer. According to the information, Joan Laporta has already given the green light to explore a potential move for the winger. However, not everyone inside the club shares the same level of enthusiasm.
The context makes the situation even more interesting. AC Milan would be open to selling for around €45–50 million plus variables, a much lower figure than in previous transfer windows. At the same time, Leão himself is reportedly open to listening to Barça’s proposal, which keeps the door clearly open.
Still, he is not currently the undisputed first-choice target for the left wing. That detail explains why the operation generates excitement in some areas of the club, while others remain more cautious.
Laporta pushes, but internal doubts remain
Inside Barça, Leão is highly valued for his raw talent, explosiveness, and ability to decide games from the left flank. He brings pace, power, and unpredictability — exactly the kind of profile the team has lacked at times this season.
However, the financial situation forces the club to be extremely precise. A €50M investment is not something Barça can afford to get wrong, especially under ongoing Financial Fair Play restrictions. That is why, despite Laporta’s backing, there is still no full internal consensus.
Another important factor is his contract. Leão is tied to Milan until 2028, meaning that even with a reduced price, this would still be a major and complex operation when considering salary, bonuses, and total package.
Leão emerges as a strong alternative
His name is also directly linked to other attacking decisions, especially the future of Marcus Rashford. If that deal collapses or becomes too expensive, Leão could quickly rise in priority.
In that scenario, Barça would be looking at a more accessible opportunity than in previous years, with Milan willing to negotiate and the player open to the move. However, everything still depends on sales, wage space, and Fair Play margins.
Right now, the situation inside the club is quite clear. Laporta wants him, Leão is open, and Milan are willing to sell. But until there is full agreement internally, he remains a strong alternative — not yet the number one target.
