Marc Cucurella’s latest comments have not gone unnoticed around Barcelona. The Chelsea full-back, who came through La Masia, has once again been asked about the possibility of returning to Barça one day, and his answer left a very clear message: he is not closing the door. In a press conference with Spain this week, Cucurella admitted that a return to Barcelona would be something he would have to seriously think about, while also making it clear that it is not something he is considering right now.
That is the key nuance in the whole story. Cucurella did not announce any plan to leave Chelsea soon, and there is no sign of negotiations or immediate movement toward Camp Nou. What he did say is that Barça remain a special club in his career and that a future opportunity would be difficult to ignore.
A door left open, but with no urgency
Cucurella’s message was very clear. He is not actively thinking about a return to Barcelona now. His focus remains on his present situation, and he did not try to turn the answer into a transfer hint for the short term. That matters, because it places the story much more in the category of a future possibility than a live market operation.
At the same time, he also refused to shut the door completely. That is what has kept the story alive. When a player with his background openly admits that Barça would be difficult to turn down, it naturally creates noise around a club where the emotional connection is still very strong.
The emotional factor still matters
For Cucurella, Barça are not just another club. He was developed in La Masia, and that bond has remained visible for years, even after his exit. Back in 2020, while still speaking as a former academy player, he openly discussed Barcelona’s treatment of young players and made clear how closely he still felt linked to the club and its identity.
That is why his latest words carry weight. They are not coming from a player with no connection to the club, but from someone whose football education and emotional roots are tied directly to Barça. So even if there is no active move now, the idea of a return still feels believable on a human level.
A long-term possibility, not a current operation
So the current picture is quite simple. Cucurella is not planning a return to Barça right now, and Barça are not known to be working on that operation at the moment. But the player has openly admitted that, if the opportunity ever arrived in the future, it would be very hard for him to say no.
That leaves the door open, even if only slightly. The market moves quickly, careers change direction fast, and situations that look distant today can become real later on. For now, though, the message is clear: Cucurella is not thinking about Barça today, but Barça still mean something special to him.
