FC Barcelona are still searching for a formula to get closer to signing Julián Álvarez. The operation is extremely complicated because Atlético Madrid do not want to sell him easily. But the red-and-white club’s interest in Ferran Torres could open an unexpected route.
According to Gerard Romero, Atlético are interested in the Barça forward. That information arrives at a particularly sensitive moment for the blaugrana planning. Ferran’s contract expires in 2027 and his future is starting to demand a clear decision.
Barça will have to choose between renewing him, selling him or using him in a larger operation. Keeping him without extending his deal would be an important risk for the club’s finances. That is why his name is now being mixed with one of the biggest files of the summer.
Ferran is liked in Madrid
Ferran has characteristics that could fit well at Atlético Madrid. He is competitive, works without the ball, attacks spaces and can play in several attacking positions. He also knows LaLiga perfectly, something that always reduces risk in important signings.
For Diego Simeone, a player like him could have immediate use inside the squad. He can operate as a winger, second striker or mobile forward depending on the match plan. That versatility explains why his name makes sense at the Metropolitano.
The problem is that Ferran cannot be included in any operation without accepting the move. The player has always shown a desire to succeed at Barça and feel important there. That is why his personal stance will be just as decisive as any agreement between the clubs.
Barça have a dilemma
Barça value Ferran because he has responded in important moments of the season. His ability to score, compete and adapt to different roles is appreciated by Hansi Flick. But the market forces decisions that are not always comfortable from a sporting point of view.

The great blaugrana dream remains Julián Álvarez, Atlético Madrid’s striker. The Argentine is hugely admired for his mobility, pressing, goals and competitive mentality. Flick sees him as a player capable of leading the attack for several years.
A cash-only operation would be extremely difficult for Barça because of Atlético’s demands. Including Ferran could reduce the fixed amount and open a different kind of negotiation. Even so, Atlético will have the final word on any concrete formula.
The scenario is full of conditions, but the link between both names already exists. Ferran is liked in Madrid, Julián is wanted in Barcelona and Deco needs creativity. And that is the twist: Ferran could be much more than a sale, he could be the key.
