FC Barcelona are still moving quietly in the market and have opened a new path to strengthen the attack. Recent reporting says a Barça scout was in attendance last weekend to watch a winger who has been attracting more and more attention across Europe. That player is Andreas Schjelderup, the Benfica left winger, who is now 21 and continues to grow in importance.
This is not being treated as a random one-off check. Barcelona have been spending months studying young, explosive attacking profiles with room to grow, and Schjelderup fits that model very well. Even so, the club are moving carefully. There is no advanced negotiation, no offer and no final decision, but there is clearly a real level of interest that keeps being reinforced by positive reports. That last point about Barça’s interest being real but not advanced is an inference from the reported live scouting and the lack of any verified transfer steps.
A profile that fits what Flick wants
Schjelderup is mainly a left winger, but he is also capable of operating in other attacking roles. He is right-footed, which allows him to move inside from the left and attack more central spaces, a trait that can be especially useful in an attacking structure built around movement and variation in the final third.
His profile is appealing for several reasons. He offers one-against-one ability, directness and technical quality, and Benfica’s own official player page credits him this season with 33 matches, 6 goals and 3 assists across competitions. That helps explain why his name is gathering momentum and why clubs continue to monitor him so closely.
He has also produced on the European stage. UEFA’s official Champions League statistics list him with 7 matches, 422 minutes and 2 goals, while Benfica’s squad page for the competition shows an even broader total in UEFA appearances this season. Either way, the key message is the same: he is no longer just a promising talent, but a player already making an impact in major competitions.
Barça keep building options in attack
The monitoring of Schjelderup should be seen as part of a wider strategy. Barça are trying to identify young attacking talent before it fully explodes in the market and becomes financially unreachable. In that sense, Benfica are always an important place to watch because the Portuguese club remain one of the strongest showcases for emerging talent in Europe. That last point is an inference based on Benfica’s repeated role in developing and exposing young players at elite level.
Schjelderup also has the sort of market profile that makes this kind of tracking logical. He is 21, under contract with Benfica until June 2028, and Transfermarkt currently places his value at €20 million, while also listing a much higher release clause. That combination makes him expensive enough to matter, but still potentially reachable before his price rises even further.
No rush, but his name is clearly marked
For now, the picture is simple. There is no negotiation, no bid and no completed step toward a transfer. But there is one important detail that changes everything: Barça have gone to watch him live. When that happens, the interest stops being theoretical and starts becoming a real option inside the planning for the next market window. That conclusion is an inference from the reported live scouting.
The summer window has not even opened yet, but Barcelona are already taking notes. And among the attacking names beginning to gain more weight on the list, one is standing out more and more: Andreas Schjelderup.
