Dressing-room complaints about physical preparation accelerate a key change in the blaugrana staff.
FC Barcelona have made an important decision inside the first team’s physical department. Julio Tous will stop working daily with Hansi Flick’s squad. Inside the dressing room, the change is being read as a clear victory for the German coach.
The decision comes after months marked by internal complaints about recoveries and daily work. Important players like Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Eric García reportedly spoke against some methods. Flick pushed the club, and Laporta ultimately chose the coach’s criteria.
Flick imposes his criteria
The phrase summarising the case is very strong inside the Barça environment. Between Hansi and Julio, Laporta reportedly chose Hansi because there was no real alternative. The German coach needed to feel fully backed before preparing next season.
Flick considers it essential to control every physical detail of a highly demanded squad. Injuries, relapses and recovery processes had created clear wear during the season. The coach wanted deep changes, and the club have finally accepted his request.
Deco and Alejandro Echevarría reportedly tried to keep Tous with less first-team weight. The final solution, however, has been removing him from daily work with the main squad. His new role will be linked to the reserve team, Juvenil A and other club sections.
The dressing room reads the change as a triumph
Inside the dressing room, the move is interpreted as the end of a heavily discussed stage. The complaints did not only affect major injuries, but also daily recovery work. Some players felt uncomfortable with certain physical preparation methods during the season.
Raphinha, Lamine and Eric appear as relevant names inside that internal discomfort. Players with that level of weight speaking up increased pressure on the blaugrana board. Flick collected that feeling and took it to the offices with a clear demand.
Barça did not want to turn the issue into a public rupture or internal war. That is why Tous’ first-team exit comes with a relocation inside the club. The decision protects the structure, but also gives full authority to the coach.
Tous will remain inside Barça
Julio Tous will not completely leave the club despite exiting the immediate first-team environment. The physical coach will keep working with structures Barça consider important and high-performing. The reserve team and Juvenil A will be treated as elite teams in the plan.
The idea is to use his experience without keeping him in a friction-heavy zone. Tous arrived in 2024 as an important bet to modernise Barça’s physical area. Two years later, his figure is displaced by the new priority marked by Flick.
The change also fits a preseason that will begin with renewed energy at Sant Joan Despí. Barça want to avoid old problems and reach the season much better prepared. Flick will have more direct power over an area he considers absolutely decisive.
Laporta shields the coach
Laporta knows the project needs stability, results and a more physically reliable squad. That is why the president has protected the coach over the questioned physical figure. The internal message is clear: Flick commands, and the club adapts the structure to his demands.
Barça face a key season, with sporting pressure, an open market and pending decisions. Any physical improvement can directly affect LaLiga, the Champions League and young talents. In that context, the staff is no longer secondary, but a real priority.
The dressing room welcomes the turn, Flick gains authority and Tous is relocated inside the club. It is not a total rupture, but it is a clear power shift. The twist is clear: Barça’s physical preparation changes hands because this time Laporta chose Flick.
Caution note: At the time of writing, Barça have not officially detailed every internal reason behind this staff restructuring.
