Matchday 3 : A look at Our next opponent: Getafe
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatApp

Match day 3 of La Liga sees us face up against Getafe at the beautiful Camp Nou, for the last time before the international break. Getafe is always a team that is horrible to play against. Not necessarily in terms of quality, but the way they play can be seen sometimes as a bit negative. Once again, it isn’t going to be a straight forward game for us. But being at the Camp Nou always gives us a boost. A positive result tomorrow is crucial for our season. But it would also be great to go into the international break with positive vibes. Especially considering how tough the start of September will be for us. In this brief article, we will be looking a little closer at our opponents. How they have
started the league season. Aswell as of course which players we should be looking out for. Lastly looking at our most recent results against Getafe.

How have they started the season?

As far as Getafe’s pre season went, it ended up going fairly well. Of course the opponents weren’t elite teams, but in terms of preparations for the new season, they did pick up some decent results. Winning 2-1 against Rennes and 2-0 against Brighton. Since the start of the new season however, things haven’t been so promising. Losing their first La Liga game 1-0 at Valencia. Then following that up with a 1-0 loss at home to Sevilla.

When it comes to playing Barça however, anything and any result can happen, it just purely depends on the day. If we lose focus or take our foot off the gas at any second, we will be punished. Like we saw last season in our away game against them. They won’t have much of the ball, and probably won’t cause us a lot of problems. But against teams like Getafe, it’s usually Barça who is our own enemy. Lack of contraction or communication in defence will cost us. And we can’t afford that to
happen. They’re a team we can beat, but we have to focus.

Players to Watch:

One of the most obvious players to watch is ex Barcelona player, Carles Aleña. A gem from La masia
that a lot of us fans wanted to see succeed at Barça. But for a number of different reasons and situations, that just didn’t happen. After spending most seasons away from the club on loan, he was eventually sold permanently to Getafe in the summer. A central midfielder with a lot of talent and quality, and also with a point to prove. Aleña could definitely give us problems tomorrow, especially with is creativity. So he is definitely one to watch. Aswell as the Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. Who always seems to turn into prime Neuer whenever we face him. Especially now without Lionel Messi, we have to be 100% clinical. Take every chance we create and not miss.. Otherwise, Soria will keep
Getafe in the game and make things very difficult for us.

✅| OFFICIAL: FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Getafe for the transfer of Carles Aleñá.

• Barça reserves 50% rights of a future sale of the player, a re-purchase option and the right to match any offer received by Getafe.

Thank You, Carles Aleñá! 💙❤ pic.twitter.com/sfs0D6WdiY

Recent Results:

Our last two meetings with Getafe came in last seasons La Liga Campaign. One at the very beginning of the season where we fell to a disappointing 1-0 loss away from home. After a lack lustre performance, the winning goal came from the penalty spot. We had our chances and created many opportunities, but we failed to take advantage of them. Which, as mentioned before, is something we cannot afford to do now. Our most recent game against them came at the Camp Nou, where we managed to perform a lot more convincingly than the previous game. A brace from Lionel Messi
helped us thrash them on the night 5-2. Improving our chances of winning the league. A performance like that is well needed for tomorrow’s game. Not only for points in the league, but also for the squads confidence. Going into the international break with positive vibes would be the best thing possible for the squad’s confidence.
