Club friendly action in December is uncommon, but here we are with a match between Barca and Club America.
We know why Barca is here, to make some extra cash and get on their with Christmas break. So with all that being said, let’s get to the action.
First half
Generally speaking, this wasn’t a match we were waiting impatiently for.
It was simply a friendly match for cash purposes, something Barca needs a lot of for FFP purposes right about now. So instead of stressing over the match, the time watching was better spent enjoying the debuts of younger players, while also witnessing another look at some other players that have received chances in the past.
Names like Hector Fort, Marc Guiu, Lamine Yamal, Marc Casado, Unai Hernadnez, Pau Cubarsi, and more.
So with that in mind, let’s get into the first half action, which began with a nice goal from Lamine Yamal. He darted through Club America’s defense, before firing off a bit of a scuffed shot past the keeper and into the back of the net.
The lead didn’t last for long though, as 6 minutes later it was Club America’s Julian Quinones who equalized.
Barca did find a goal later in the half though, as Marc Guiu showcased a classic poacher’s goal by getting on the end of a dangerous pass, then sliding it into the back of the net.
This concluded the first half action for the most part, with the Barca youngsters and veterans mixed in putting out a rather mixed bag of a first half. Still, it was good to see the youngsters getting some playing time, while experienced the highs and learning from the lows in real time.
Onto the second half we went.
Second half
The second half was a bit of a blur.
There were more younger players that came in. Diego Kochen who made his Barca debut, Pau Prim, and Angel Alarcron. However, Barca did indeed find themselves on the receiving end of two goals from Club America.
The first was scored by Julian Quinones, who bagged a brace for himself on the night.
The second was scored by Henry Martin to make it 3-2, which ended up being the final goal scored on the night. Barca lost 3-2, but this wasn’t a match to throw your hat over.
Just some extra cash for Barca and some exciting moments from the club’s potential future.
Final word
Not much to say on this match.
Was happy to see some of the younger players receive some game time, especially the likes of Pau Cubari, Mikayil Faye, Hector Fort, and Unai Hernandez. That should be the only takeaway from the match.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match won’t come until January 4th, when Barca travel to Las Palmas for a bit of Barca derby, with Julian Araujo — not sure if there’s a fear clause in his deal, so we;ll have to monitor that — and former Barca Atletic gaffer Garcia Pimienta in the fold.
It’ll also potentially be a homecoming for Pedri, who made a name for himself playing for the club cemented on the Canary Islands. Although we’ll have to see if he’ll be fit enough to even play in that match.
One last note: the Las Palmas match could include the debut of Vitor Roque. Although that’ll depend on the decision of Xavi.
