It’s Sunday night, in Saudi Arabia, and it’s the big one. Live at 8pm CET, it’s the Spanish Supercopa final, between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Of course, the world knows this meeting as El Clasico. The second meeting between us this season, and this time, a trophy is on the line. The first piece of real silverware this season. I think it’s safe to say the Spanish super cup isn’t the biggest trophy up for grabs across the season, but it’s more of a confidence boost.
It’s something that Cana cut as catalyst for the rest of the season, something to build momentum. And we saw that in our case last season. Of course, it’s against Real Madrid too and that should be motivation enough not to let them get one up on us this season. It’s a very important match, so let’s jump straight into the match preview!
A Quick Look at our opponent:
When it comes to our opponent, they need no introduction. This is a fierce rivalry that goes back decades. Real Madrid not only are our biggest and most hated rivals on the pitch, but they are also the reason for so many problems off of it. Real Madrid this season, have been very up and down. Xavi Alonso has struggled to implement his tactical way of thinking onto a team that, to be honest, would rather just do what they want. It has been pretty much Mbappe or nothing for Madrid so far this season. Which is ironic, as coming into tonight’s game, he is doubtful for starting. Although Alonso did confirm that he is back from his brief injury and will be with the team.
Coming into any Clasico, however, form goes out the window. We have been building well over the past month or so, with a very convincing 5-0 win against Athletic Club in the semi finals of this short competition. But, like I said, that form goes out the window in a game like El Clasico. It’s going to be interesting to see what Flick decides to do with our lineup, as I think for Real Madrid, it pretty much picks itself at the moment.
Predicted lineup:
When we look at our possible lineup for the game tonight, I don’t think we’ll see a lot different from the lineup that began the game a few days ago against Athletic Club, because why would you change it? The only player I could see being sacrificed is possibly Is Roony. And that is unfortunate as he was absolutely excellent against the basque side on Wednesday. But in a game like this, when he’s 100% ready, you’re not going to leave Lamine Yamal on the bench.
For me though, although I think it probably won’t happen, I think it would be good to see Yamal at the 10 position allowing Roony to start on the right. With Raphinha on the left hand side. I don’t think Flick will go with that, but we have seen it once before and it worked wonders. So why not spring a surprise like that again on a big game like El Clasico tonight. What Flick will decide to go with, is anyone’s guess.
My starting 11:
Joan Garçia
Kounde- Eric- Cubarsi- Balde
Pedri- Frenkie
Roony- Yamal- Raphinha
Ferran
