After the painful defeat in El Clásico, Barça are already shifting their focus to the next challenge. The team will host Elche on Sunday at 18:30, and there is reason for optimism at the Ciutat Esportiva. The best news of the week is that Robert Lewandowski has returned to group training, a huge boost for Hansi Flick’s squad after several difficult weeks filled with injuries and absences.
The Polish striker joined the rest of his teammates in Monday’s recovery session, just a day after the loss at the Santiago Bernabéu. His return comes earlier than expected, showing clear progress from the muscle injury in his left leg that he suffered while on international duty with Poland.
Lewandowski’s comeback could change everything
Lewandowski’s presence on the training pitch brings hope back to the dressing room. Without him, Barcelona have lacked a true reference inside the box. His goals and leadership have been sorely missed during a period when the team has struggled to convert chances.
According to reports from SPORT, the striker trained at low intensity and will continue to follow a progressive recovery plan under the supervision of the club’s medical staff. If his positive sensations continue, Lewandowski could be named in the squad for Sunday’s match against Elche.
Flick returns to the bench with key reinforcements
Coach Hansi Flick will also return to the touchline after serving his suspension. He now has a full week to prepare the match and to recover as many players as possible. The medical updates are encouraging, with several players expected to rejoin the group in the coming days.
Christensen is fully recovered from the stomach virus that ruled him out of the Clásico and is expected to make the list. Joan Garcia is also close to returning after his knee injury, while Raphinha and Dani Olmo continue their gradual recovery process.
The club remains cautious with Raphinha after his latest muscle setback, but his situation is improving. Dani Olmo, meanwhile, is expected to resume training shortly after missing more than two weeks due to discomfort from international duty.
Ter Stegen and Gavi will take longer
Not all the news is positive, however. Captain Marc-André ter Stegen continues his recovery from back surgery, and his return is not expected until late November or early December. Gavi, who underwent knee surgery in September, will likely be sidelined until early 2025.
Even so, the general feeling inside the club is that the worst part of the injury crisis is behind them. With Lewandowski’s comeback and the return of Flick to the bench, Barça can finally start rebuilding rhythm and confidence after a turbulent month.
The road ahead
Barça’s immediate goal is clear: respond strongly at Montjuïc and keep the pressure on Real Madrid in the title race. Flick’s men know that the best way to move on from El Clásico disappointment is with a convincing win at home.
The return of their number nine might be exactly what they need to find the spark again.
