The new Barcelona fullback Julian Araujo will represent Mexico a match of the CONCACAF Nations League. But before the duel with his national team, he gave an interview to ‘ESPN’. There, he talked about his first weeks of adaptation to Barca and also of his referent in the culé squad.
Despite playing as a right back, Julian Araujo revealed that his reference is Jordi Alba. He asks Alba for advice in training to be able to try to repeat the successful career that the man from L’Hospitalet had in Barca.
Alba as Araujo’s role model
“Jordi Alba is a left back and he’s had an incredible career. He’s someone I admired as a child, so I ask him questions. I try to learn, I try to assimilate what I see on the pitch when we train,” he said. Julian Araujo then highlighted how impressive it is to be able to be in a club of the size of Barca.
“It’s unbelievable, man. It’s another world. You always have to be alert, you always have to be ready, waiting for what’s going to happen next. If you’re defending, the pace is very, very high. As a kid, I always dreamed of playing with the best clubs in the world. Being able to be here, as a Mexican-American and with the biggest club in world of football, is incredible.”
Araujo also pointed out that “I felt frustrated” during the days in which it was not at all clear that he could sign for Barca after the documentation of his transfer arrived 18 seconds after the deadline in the last winter market.
“I felt frustrated, I couldn’t do anything about it. I did my part, my part was in control. That’s one of the things I’ve learned in my career: take care of what you can control.” Julian Araujo hopes to be able to play a leading role with Mexico in this national team break to pick up a competitive rhythm.
