FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made his stance crystal clear regarding his future at the club following his election victory. In a recent interview, the Barça chief stated that he has no intention of changing the club’s statutes in order to run again in the future.
“I’m not going to modify the statutes. This is my final term. I’m not going to turn myself into a Putin or a Maduro,” Laporta said, sending a firm message after winning the election.
With that statement, Laporta aimed to put an end to any speculation about remaining in power beyond the limits established by the club’s rules.

A firm message after the election
After winning the election and securing his mandate until 2031, Laporta wanted to clarify his position from the outset. In his view, FC Barcelona must always respect its own institutional framework without exceptions.
He stressed that this will be his final spell in charge of the club, ruling out any possibility of extending his presidency through legal or statutory changes.
His comments have been widely seen as a way of underlining his commitment to the club’s democratic model and to the principles that govern the institution.
No changes to the club’s rules
Laporta was particularly emphatic when rejecting any attempt to amend the statutes in order to stay in office longer, an issue that has sparked controversy in other football institutions in the past.
The Barça president believes the club’s statutes are a key part of preserving institutional balance and must be respected at all times.
He has defended this position before as well, once again making it clear that he will not take decisions that could be interpreted as serving his own personal interests.

A term that runs until 2031
Following his election win, Laporta is now beginning a new cycle as Barcelona president that will run through to 2031. It is expected to be a decisive period for both the sporting project and the club’s economic recovery.
During this term, Barcelona will have to deal with major challenges, including the development of Espai Barça, financial stability, and long-term squad planning.
According to Laporta himself, this will be the final chapter of his journey as president, bringing to a close one of the most significant eras in recent FC Barcelona history.
