Barcelona are looking at Ez Abde with much more attention than seemed likely only a few weeks ago. The Moroccan winger has gained strength again inside Barça’s planning after leaving very positive impressions on Hansi Flick’s coaching staff. What recently sounded more like distant monitoring now looks like a real market route.
The change in perception does not come only from memories of his time at La Masia. This time, the assessment comes directly from the coaching staff’s recent analysis of his performances. Flick watched him closely in the last Barça-Betis match, and the internal conclusions were better than expected.
Inside the club, that detail carries real value. When the coach clearly validates a profile, his candidacy immediately gains weight inside the sporting department. That is exactly what has happened with Abde, who has become a much more serious alternative for the left wing.
Flick sees what he wants
The German coach wants wingers capable of breaking matches through one-on-one situations. He wants speed, aggression, dribbling and constant threat from outside to punish closed defences. That is where the Moroccan’s profile fits quite well with what Barça are looking for.
Abde offers exactly that verticality that is so difficult to find in the current market. He is a player who takes opponents on, accelerates and can change the rhythm of a match quickly. For a Barça side needing more imbalance out wide, his name becomes especially attractive again.
This is no longer only about an electric or unpredictable player. His recent evolution has also reinforced the feeling that he now has more competitive maturity and real attacking weight. That improvement is one of the things the coaching staff liked most.
His Betis situation helps
Another important reason why his name is back on the table is his season. Abde has not only provided dribbling, but also numbers that present him as a player with real production. For a team that needs goals and assists from wide areas, that detail matters a lot.
His case is also different from other much more expensive wingers on the market. Barça know the player perfectly, understand his environment and still hold contractual mechanisms that make his situation more accessible. That gives the club a better starting point than with many external targets.
This would not be a blind bet or a risky market adventure. It would be the return of a player who knows the house and now arrives with a much stronger endorsement from the coaching staff. That changes the entire reading of the operation.
Not just nostalgia anymore
The left wing remains one of the areas creating most debate in Barça’s summer planning. The future of some attackers is still unresolved, and the club need several alternative routes ready. In that scenario, Ez Abde is no longer just nostalgia for a former academy player.
The conclusion inside Camp Nou is becoming clear. Flick was satisfied with his performance, the profile is liked and Barça see him as a valid option to strengthen the attack. That does not mean he is the absolute priority, but his name is back on the table with real force.
If more expensive routes fall away or key files remain unresolved, his candidacy could grow very quickly. He knows the club, offers exactly the type of imbalance Barça want and now has something decisive: the coach’s approval.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported coaching-staff impressions and market planning, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and Betis.
