Fermín López (22 years old) showcased his commitment and loyalty to Barça during the match against Valencia. He previously mentioned to this publication that he did not hesitate in rejecting Chelsea’s temptation during the last week of the transfer market. There were no doubts from the Blaugrana club either, as they did not want to sell him, setting his price at 90 million and only considering it if he requested to leave.
The youngster from El Campillo responded on the pitch at the first opportunity he got. He did it against Corberán’s team, no less, scoring two spectacular goals. These two goals were crucial in steering the victory and highlight the excellent form the international player from FC Barcelona is going through.
Fermín aims to be a key player and has been demonstrating that since the pre-season. Notably, he excels at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. It’s worth remembering that he already scored a brace in the Gamper against Como, which earned him the MVP award. While performing at Spotify Camp Nou would be preferred, Johan will always hold a special place.
After not playing against Levante—“because this is Barça,” he recalled in his interview with MD—and going unnoticed in Vallecas, right in the week he was contemplating his future while Chelsea pressed on, this past Sunday he rebounded with two goals upon returning as a starter against Valencia. He opened the scoring and sealed it with a third goal. The match was decided with a kiss on the badge, reinforcing his love for the club in front of his fans.
5 Goals From Outside the Box
Fermín López has already scored 21 official goals with FC Barcelona, and five of them have been real rockets from outside the box. The midfielder doesn’t hesitate: when he receives the ball near the edge of the area and spots an opening, he sets up the ball and fires away, with either foot.
His first major strike, although not counted in official statistics, came in a preseason Clásico in 2024 in the United States. An unstoppable left-footed shot that beat Courtois. On that day, the homegrown player made his mark on the world and earned his continuity after his loan at Linares. In official competition, the first rocket came in the Champions League, during the 2024/25 season against Shakhtar at the Lluís Companys (2-1). He scored the second goal and also assisted the first for Ferran Torres. That same season, he returned to prominence with a decisive shot at the Pizjuán to defeat Sevilla (1-2).
Last season, he repeated the feat with two more stunning goals from mid-distance: one against Espanyol in Cornellà, vital for bringing Barça closer to the La Liga title, and another against Villarreal in Montjuïc, this time with his left foot.
