Rafael Leão’s name is once again being linked with FC Barcelona, but this time there is an important nuance. According to information attributed to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese winger is simply a player admired by Joan Laporta. For now, Barça have not opened any concrete negotiations with AC Milan or the player’s camp.
That detail changes the entire reading of the situation. One thing is that Laporta likes Leão because of his talent, dribbling ability and international reputation. Another very different thing is that Barça are actively trying to sign him this summer.
Inside the club, priorities still matter a lot. Barça believe they must reinforce other positions before launching a major move for a winger of that cost. That is why Leão loses strength despite the president’s clear admiration.

Leão is liked, but not an immediate operation
From a football perspective, nobody questions what Rafael Leão can offer. He is capable of beating defenders one-on-one, breaking games from the left and creating constant danger in the final third. That is exactly why his name appears around major European clubs every transfer window.
The problem for Barça is not only his talent, but the full cost of the deal. Recent reports place his possible price between €50 million and €70 million, depending on the source and negotiation structure. For a club still limited by Financial Fair Play, that kind of investment must be chosen very carefully.
Barça’s own context also shapes the situation. The club continues to evaluate the left wing, but there are still other open files to resolve first. So, although Laporta likes Leão, the current reality is much colder than the noise suggests.
The market moves, but Barça stay still
Meanwhile, other clubs are indeed asking about the Milan winger’s situation. Reports following Romano’s line suggest that several Premier League clubs have already made calls to understand conditions, salary and potential exit margins. That proves there is a market around Leão, but not that Barça are actively in the race.
The conclusion is clear. Rafael Leão is liked by Joan Laporta, but right now it does not go beyond that. There is no open negotiation, no movement with Milan and no talks with the player to bring him to Camp Nou.
So, the noise exists, but the operation does not. Laporta admires the player, the market is moving, and his name will keep appearing in headlines. But today, inside Barça, Leão is more of an attractive idea than a real signing.
