Barcelona already have one position clearly marked as a priority for the summer, and the left-back role is now creating real consensus inside the club. Deco believes Barça need a reliable reinforcement on that side for next season, a decision driven both by performance levels and by wider squad planning.
Although the team have found temporary solutions during the campaign, the sporting department feel there is still a lack of real competition in that area. The aim is to bring in a profile capable of raising the level and offering more consistency over the course of the season.
That is why there are already concrete names on the table. Two options in particular stand out, both followed by the club for some time. They are different types of full-backs, but both offer qualities that fit what Barça are looking for.
Grimaldo returns to the picture
One of the names gaining strength again is Álex Grimaldo. The full-back, who came through La Masia, has always remained on the club’s radar. His attacking profile and his experience at the top level make him a very attractive option.
Grimaldo stands out for his ability to create danger in the final third, as well as his precision in crosses and set pieces. On top of that, his knowledge of Barça’s footballing identity would make any possible adaptation much easier. That is a very important factor in this kind of operation.
The club especially value his recent performances and his consistency in European competition. That is why his name is once again gaining momentum as a genuine option to strengthen the squad.
Caio Henrique is the alternative Barça like
The other name being studied by the sporting department is Caio Henrique. The Brazilian full-back has shown a strong level in European football and fits the kind of profile Barça are looking for. His technical ability and his energy up and down the flank make him a very interesting alternative.
Compared with Grimaldo, he offers a somewhat more balanced profile between defence and attack. He can give the team more solidity at the back without giving up his ability to join the attack. That combination is highly valued inside the club.
Another important point in his favour is his development over the last few years. His progress has been steady, and his age places him at the right moment to take a major step in his career. That is why Barcelona are monitoring him closely as a player who could offer both immediate value and future growth.
A position now marked as a priority
The decision to reinforce left-back is not random. Barça want to improve the squad depth and avoid having to rely on improvised solutions again. That need has become even clearer in a season where injuries have affected several areas of the team.
Deco is convinced this is one of the priorities for the next window, and the sporting department are already working on finding the best possible option. As always, the key will be balancing performance level with financial cost.
Summer is getting closer, and Barcelona are beginning to move. Everything suggests that left-back will be one of the main focuses of the market, with Álex Grimaldo and Caio Henrique standing out as the two names currently strongest on the list.
