FC Barcelona is continuing its planning for the upcoming transfer window, and one of the club’s main priorities will be strengthening the striker position. The sporting department believes bringing in a new forward capable of leading the attack in the coming years is a key step for the project.
According to journalist Fernando Polo from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has already made an important decision. The club has internally set a maximum budget of €100 million for signing its next number nine.

Julián Álvarez remains the main target
Among the different candidates being considered, the name that stands out the most inside the club is Julián Álvarez.
The Argentine forward, currently playing for Atlético de Madrid, perfectly matches the profile Barcelona is looking for. His mobility, pressing intensity and ability to score goals make him an ideal striker for the tactical system of Hansi Flick.
Within the club, there has also been attention on Álvarez’s recent public comments about his future.
When asked about whether he would remain at Atlético next season, the striker responded with a vague answer: “Maybe yes, maybe no.”
Those words have been interpreted within Barcelona’s environment as a sign that the player has not completely ruled out a potential move.
Financial fair play still limits the operation
Despite the strong interest, Barcelona knows that completing such a signing will depend on the club’s financial situation.
The main condition is returning to LaLiga’s 1:1 financial fair play rule, which would allow the club to register new players normally.
Until that financial margin is fully recovered, completing a major transfer will remain complicated.
The player’s stance could be decisive
Inside the club there is also a belief that the player’s own willingness will be a crucial factor.
Barcelona understands that if they seriously attempt to sign Álvarez, the Argentine forward would likely need to push for the move in order to facilitate negotiations.
Without that pressure from the player, Atlético would have little incentive to negotiate a deal involving such a valuable asset.
A crucial summer for Barcelona’s attack
While the future of Robert Lewandowski is still being evaluated, Barcelona continues to study the market carefully.
The sporting department wants to ensure that if a new striker arrives, he will be a long-term cornerstone of the team, both in the present and for the future.
For now, the message from inside Camp Nou is clear: Barcelona will only pursue the deal if the price remains within the €100 million limit they have already set internally.
