Barcelona have spent months studying Robert Lewandowski’s future, and the club’s position is now much clearer than it may seem from the outside. The Polish striker’s contract runs until 30 June 2026, so his situation is one of the key files in Barça’s summer planning. Recent reporting says Joan Laporta wants Lewandowski to stay for one more season, with the club leaning toward an extension rather than a clean break this summer.
Inside the club, the belief is that, despite his age, Lewandowski still carries major value. Barça continue to rate his experience, his commitment and his influence in important moments of the season. Laporta, in particular, is said to see him as a figure who still matters both on the pitch and inside the dressing room.
That is why the initial idea at Camp Nou is to back his continuity. The plan being discussed is not to keep everything exactly as it is now, but to maintain Lewandowski as part of the project while gradually reshaping his role within the attack.

Barça want to renew him, but the final decision is not only theirs
Barcelona’s position is clear, but the final answer does not depend only on the club. Lewandowski himself has still not made a definitive decision on what he wants to do next. In comments from Poland reported by AS, he made it clear that he wants to take his time and choose calmly what is best for him before committing to anything.
That waiting game matters a lot for Barça. The club’s attacking planning for next season depends heavily on what Lewandowski decides, because his continuity or departure would completely change the structure of the frontline and the room available for other moves.
His role has already started to change
This season has already left some clear signs about his evolution inside the team. Lewandowski remains an important striker, but recent reporting also points to a loss of protagonism in certain stretches, while other attacking players have gained more weight in the final third. AS specifically noted that he has even lost priority in areas like penalties, where Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have taken on more importance.
Even so, the club continue to value his presence in big matches and his influence on younger players. That is one of the reasons why the current Barça plan is not built around an immediate goodbye, but around a redefined continuation. According to Cadena SER, the club are considering a one-year extension on reduced salary terms, with Lewandowski taking on a more secondary and mentoring role.
Barça already know what they want — now they wait
So the picture today is fairly clear. Barça want Lewandowski to continue, Laporta is in favour of keeping him, and the club see value in extending his stay for another year under new conditions. But Lewandowski has not yet given his final answer, and he wants to wait until the end of the season before making such an important decision.
That means one thing above all: the club have already made up their mind, but the last word now belongs to the player.
