FC Barcelona has already begun planning its strategy for the upcoming summer transfer market. Inside the offices of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the sporting department led by Deco is working on several fronts to strengthen the squad managed by Hansi Flick.
One of the club’s main priorities is to add a new central defender, ideally left-footed, who can strengthen the back line both for the present and for the long-term future of the team.
In that context, a new name has appeared on Barça’s radar: Luka Vušković.
Barça have already contacted his representatives
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona have already held initial conversations with the player’s representatives to better understand his current situation.
Vušković is widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in European football. The Croatian centre-back currently belongs to Tottenham Hotspur, who signed him in 2023 as a long-term investment.
At the moment, he is playing on loan at Hamburger SV, where he is gaining valuable minutes and experience in the 2. Bundesliga.
A defensive prospect for the future
Despite being only 18 years old, Vušković is already seen as one of the most promising central defenders of his generation.
He stands out for his physical presence, strong aerial ability and his confidence when building play from the back — qualities that match the defensive profile Barcelona are currently searching for.
Inside the club there is belief that, if his development continues at the same pace, he could become an important centre-back in the medium term.
Tottenham still count on him
However, any potential operation would be far from simple. Vušković is under contract with Tottenham until 2030 and the English club considers him an important part of its future project.
The plan in London is for the defender to return to the team once his loan spell in Germany comes to an end.
That situation means Barcelona would have to negotiate directly with Tottenham if they decide to move forward with the deal.
Deco continues exploring the market
Vušković is just one of several defenders currently being analysed by Barcelona’s sporting department.
The club is studying multiple options to reinforce the defensive line next summer, always trying to find a player who fits both the sporting requirements and the financial reality of the institution.
For now, there are no advanced negotiations. However, the interest is real and the first contacts have already taken place.
